To the South – Day Three

The second day of our trip ended at the southern tip of the North Island in the city of Wellington. Thanks to its role in the film industry, Wellington is perhaps the most famous city in all of New Zealand. It’s also considered the windiest city in the world.

We were there to see the sites and to visit a former colleague and friend, Rochelle Cole, and her beautiful family. On Thursday night, we had a lovely dinner at their home.

Friday morning, we made a quick stop at Weta Cave. Weta Cave features a collection of props from the company’s most famous movies, mainly Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. We didn’t have time for a tour, but we had time for photos.

After our photo session at Weta Cave, we headed to the harbour to meet the Cole family for brunch.

After a delicious brunch of good coffee and scones, we all went to Red Rocks Reserve. Red Rocks is famous for the seals that call the rocks home in the winter. It was too early in the season for the seals to be around, so the girls (and guys) played on the rocks instead.

The Coles gave us a wonderful welcome and fun tour of their home. I can’t wait until we meet up with them again.

We said our goodbyes and headed north to New Plymouth. We arrived at sunset with just enough light to see the beautiful Mt. Taranaki. Unfortunately, the clouds were blocking most of the mountain…

After taking a couple of photos in the fading light, Ben told me to turn around and look across the street. A whole farm full of cows watched me at the fence…
